PETER H. SCHIFRIN, RPA
President & CEO
Peter Schifrin began his insurance career in 1984, following in the footsteps of his father, Leslie Schifrin, the company founder. As a licensed Independent Adjuster and Private Investigator, he has extensive experience with a wide variety of claims, including property, casualty, and many specialty lines.
As a career claims expert, Peter is dedicated to staying up to date on emerging trends and is actively involved with several industry associations. He is a Past-President of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters and the California Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters and is a member of the California Department of Insurance Curriculum Board.
Peter is also a Past President of the Pacific Claim Executives Association, and the Society of Registered Professional Adjusters. In his commitment to claims education, Peter frequently presents classes to insurers and groups such as CLM, CAIIA, CCC, CCNC, and PLRB.
RICHARD KERN
Partner/Regional Manager
Richard Kern is a Partner in our San Diego office, with over 35 years of experience managing and analyzing claims. His primary expertise is administrating liability claims, with a strong focus on agriculture and premises liability. He also manages teams responsible for subrogation, passenger and commercial auto, and liability claims.
Richard oversees investigations across various claim types, working with field investigators to collect relevant data and address legal considerations. In addition to his expertise in jewelers block and fine arts claims, he spends a significant portion of his time administering claims as a Third Party Claims Administrator for overseas carriers.
Additionally, Richard serves as the President of the California Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters and is an Education Provider/Director with the California Department of Insurance, offering a variety of courses.
REBECCA LUCAS
VICE PRESIDENT - PROPERTY AND TPA OPERATIONS
Rebecca Lucas, Vice President of Property & TPA Operations, has over 25 years of experience in the insurance and construction industry. At SGD, she plays many roles, including acting as CAT Manager, where she has overseen multiple hurricane losses, including those from Hurricane Irma.
Rebecca has the expertise needed to handle both residential and commercial claims, with a focus on earthquake losses. She is recognized for her strategic leadership in managing complex, high stakes claims scenarios.
KIMBERLEY HICKEY
VICE PRESIDENT - IA SERVICES
Kimberley Hickey began her insurance adjusting career in 1983, is individually licensed, and has been with SGD since 2009. As Vice President of IA Services, she oversees our field operations and is responsible for all staff training. Additionally, she is involved in handling select complex claims. Kim is a Past President, and the current Executive Director, for the California Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters.
Kim’s ability to dissect particularly challenging claim incidents makes her an invaluable part of the team, and her commitment to excellence ensures consistent results in even the most demanding cases.
KIM BIERCE GILMORE
SAN FRANCISCO BRANCH MANAGER
Kim Bierce Gilmore is a multi-line general claims licensed adjuster with over 25 years of experience in areas including garage keepers legal liability, cargo, fine arts, jewelers block, and other liability claims.
At SGD, she specializes in handling large commercial and residential property losses. Before joining SGD, she was the Lead Adjuster for a national insurer's Special Investigators Unit. Kim's extensive background in investigative work and complex claims management brings a sharp, analytical approach to every case she handles.
IAN SANTOS
ACCOUNT MANAGER
Ian Santos oversees the Transportation and Commercial Auto Third Party Administrator Unit at SGD, responsible for managing team operations, meeting client needs and expectations, as well as recruitment and training.
With over two decades of experience in auto & liability claims, special investigations (SIU), alternative dispute resolution (ADR), litigation, and overall claims management, Ian has also developed a specialized focus on SIU-litigated cases involving medical fraud.
He excels at managing the entire claims process for multiple clients and overseeing each risk from submission through claim resolution.
MONICA DIAZ
OPERATIONS MANAGER
With over 20 years of operations experience, Monica Diaz is a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional with a strong background in account management, claims processing, inventory control, and employee development.
In her role as Operations Manager at SGD, Monica manages a diverse network of vendor relations and provides structural support to the staff, ensuring that the company's operational needs are consistently met. In addition, she manages all SGD marketing efforts to ensure tangible results by tracking and analyzing claims production.
MISTY WILLIAMS
Claims Manager & Executive General Adjuster
Misty Williams is the Claims Manager & Executive General Adjuster at our San Diego office, where she excels in managing complex P&C claims involving multiple causes of loss. With 25 years in the industry, she is proficient in all aspects of claims handling, from first notice through conclusion.
Outside of complex claims, her specialties include facilitating litigation, preparing high-value estimates, and producing thorough reports. Misty has served as an adjuster, trainer, mentor, and manager and continues taking on complex field assignments.
MICHELLE BLACK
Office Manager
Michelle Black joined SGD in 2005 as a receptionist, managing phone calls, processing claims, and supporting the payroll department. She quickly advanced her career to become an Assistant Manager, handling various administrative tasks.
In 2017, Michelle was promoted to Office Manager & Bookkeeper, overseeing payroll & clerical staff, assisting with monthly bordereau reporting and TPA accounting, and managing new employee onboarding. Her keen organizational skills and attention to detail have been instrumental in streamlining office operations and ensuring smooth day-to-day functions.
JAMES ALANDY
Claims Supervisor
James Alandy began his career in 1995 as a claims adjuster, managing all aspects of auto property damage and bodily injury claims, including investigation, evaluation, and final resolutions. He quickly advanced to a managerial position, overseeing adjusters handling first and third-party claims and standard and non-standard automobile insurance accounts.
James started at SGD in 2019 and currently oversees a team of adjusters, supervising and training them for both transportation and premises liability claims. His hands-on leadership approach ensures his team consistently delivers high-quality results across various complex claims.
